Total Freedom???

Here's what I've learned over the last 10 years about growth and maturity in the way of Jesus. It is lifelong and is not meant to be done alone. That's obvious, I know, but don't we want it to be something we can get in a weekend retreat or a sermon insight or a Bible study or whatever latest, greatest secret is being revealed?

Just the other day someone was promising me "total freedom" in just a few days of going through their program. I so wish that's how change works, but it isn't. In truth, we can get healing and see growth in a moment or over time, but those changes take us deeper into Jesus and reveal more layers we couldn't see before. We will be removing layers until we enter glory, and that's okay. It doesn't mean we should just give up. The goal isn't "total freedom", the goal is Jesus. The call is to abide in him. He touches us and heals us and frees us and loves us and invites us and sends us and gives us rest, but there will always be more in this life. We let him lead and trust he is good.

That is all easy to write, but if you allow me to go a bit deeper, I'll open up why I'm explaining all of this to you. I do have a point, and it applies to Focustsoul.

THREE DOMAINS

A dear friend who is also a spiritual director in Focustsoul, Andrew Richey, has written about three key areas of growth if we want to develop spiritual maturity. When I speak of Abiding in Christ, I am thinking of all three of these domains.

If we want to become the kind of people who turn to the other cheek and love our neighbors and don't have to have the last word and don't have to control everything and everyone and are patient and kind and curious and courageous and are comfortable in the center or on the edges and on and on. In short, if we want to become like Jesus, then we need to be developing along all three axes, and this is what we are pursuing in Focustsoul.

What are these three areas? Great question.

  1. The first takes us into a growing union with God. (Waking Up)

  2. The second opens us to see the lenses and filters and mental models through which we see our world. (Growing Up)

  3. The third takes us down the path of healing our soul from family of origin issues, trauma, and growing up in a broken world. (Cleaning Up)

Each of these requires a life-long process done both individually and in community.

This is why we started Focustsoul in 2023. Over the last year we have been trying different approaches and experimenting with different plans. The results have been mixed. Some people have been encouraged and seen growth, but the community hasn’t taken off.

This brings us to our latest iteration. We don't want to disdain what the Lord has done, but we are hoping for more.

Thus, we have decided to reduce the price and streamline what we are doing with Focustsoul.

WOW PLAN!

The new membership plan is $4.99/month or $49.99 annually! For this, you get access to the Focustsoul Network through the Mighty Networks app which you can use on your phone, tablet, and laptop.

TOO MUCH GOOD STUFF

The network contains tons of resources to help you grow. In addition, we do several live events each month including a monthly spiritual practice and book discussion. We try to invite an "expert" guest to a monthly conversation as well. If you don't make the live events, we record them so you can watch/listen when you are free. The network is designed to allow for member connections as well. Also, we have spiritual directors in the network, and we offer courses and seminars from time to time.

This means that if you want to engage in a virtual community of like-minded believers eager to grow to become like Christ, you are welcome, but if you just want to use the app for the resources and not engage with the community, you can do that as well.

Join us and experience this for yourself.
